Contra Costa County New Home Information


Contra Costa County (the opposite coast- located opposite San Francisco) was one of California's original 27 counties. New home neighborhoods are located in the ninth most populous county in California, with its population reaching approximately 1,051,677 as of January 1, 2008.

The county has a total area of 802 square miles, 720 square miles of it is land and 82 square miles water. It is bounded on the south and west by Alameda County; on the northwest San Francisco Bay (San Francisco and Marin Counties); on the North by San Pablo Bay, the Carquinez Strait, and Suisun Bay (Solano and Sacramento Counties); and on the east by the San Joaquin River (San Joaquin County).

New home residents are able to enjoy national protected areas and places of interest including the Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge, Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site, John Muir National Historic Site, and Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park. The most notable natural landmark in the county is 3,849' Mount Diablo, at the northerly end of the Diablo Range.

Mass transit connecting new home neighborhoods in the county is highly accessible and connects most areas of the region with Amtrak and the high speed BART commuter rail system.

There are a total of 18 school districts with 31 high schools, serving the new home neighborhoods of Contra Costa County with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District ranking among the top 5% of all school districts in California while the Orinda Union School District which serves students kindergarten through 8th grade is ranked the highest K-8 district in the state.
