Fresno County New Home Information


New home buyers living in Fresno County live in California's Central Valley, south of Stockton and north of Bakersfield. The county has a total area of 6,017 square miles, of which, 5,963 square miles is land and 55 square miles is water. Major watercourses are the San Joaquin, Kings River, Delta-Mendota Canal, Big Creek, Friant Kern Canal and Helm Canal. It is bordered on the west by the Coast Range and on the east by the Sierra Nevada.

As of 2008, new home residents living in Fresno County are in the tenth most populous county in California with an estimated population of 931,098, and the sixth largest in size with an area of 6,017.4 square miles. Fresno County includes parts of a number of nationally protected areas including the Giant Sequoia National Monument, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Forest, and Sierra National Forest.

Agriculture is the primary industry in Fresno County totaling $5.3 billion in 2007, making it the number one agricultural county in the nation. Major crops and livestock include: grapes, cotton, almonds, tomatoes, turkeys, cattle, milk, plums, oranges, peaches and nectarines.

New home communities with more than 2,000 children age 3-12 play on 175 teams in the sports of baseball, basketball, and football, and participate in karate lessons. The city of Fresno operates 3 major regional parks, including the highly popular Chaffee Zoo, as well as 27 playgrounds and community centers, 14 swimming pools, 3 eighteen-hole golf courses, and tennis courts. There are 5 additional public golf courses in the immediate Fresno area.

There are 34 school districts serving the new home neighborhoods of Fresno County with 360 public schools.
